I am confused between FUT & FUE which one should I opt for?
In the field of hair transplantation, we distinguish between two techniques, FUT and FUE. The main difference between the two lies in the way the follicle units are extracted. In an FUT, the strip technique is used, by which a strip of the scalp with hairs on it is taken from the back of the head, with its hair follicles subsequently being extracted. Using FUE, individual follicular units are extracted directly from the scalp with MACHINE. FUT (Strip) is like a straight and simple and most effective method for covering larger bald areas. In this strip method the donor area need not be shaved and as result of this there will be no disfigurement in the donor area as donor area will covered by the existing hair. It is only and the best method for bigger areas of baldness. To do this procedure lot of infrastructure, skilled surgeon and well trained team is required.
FUE even though it appears simple it is more tedious to the patient and also to the surgeon. Per day most of the surgeons in the world can implant in between 1000-2000 grafts. .
In order to get more grafts one has to repeatedly undergo the procedures. To get more grafts we can also combine FUE and FUT , we call it Fusion technique .This procedure is advocated by those who have sufficient infrastructure and technicians to do strip and FUE method .. It mandatory for the hair transplant surgeon to be trained for both techniques.

Recent research has proven that addition of PRP lead to increase hair counts from the transplanted hair follicles, better healing of donor and recipient area. Platelets are rich source of growth factors

HOW DO YOU PERFORM THE PROCEDURE?
Blood is drawn in our office as though you are having routine blood testing at your primary care physician’s office. The blood is spun in a centrifuge and the PRP is separated and removed from the rest of the blood.
The platelets are concentrated to 3X the normal blood values. The system eliminates granulocytes which hurts tissue regeneration and wound healing. Ananesthesia block is given to nerves of the scalp so the patient does not feel any pain. The highly concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) is then injected into the scalp. The patient’s hair is then washed next day and the patient may drive home without any assistance. No sedation or any medication is given during the procedure to inhibit the ability to drive or use machinery.

Who can’t opt for PRP?
Though PRP treatment yields great results for people suffering from hair loss, it’s not for everyone. People who have lost all hair cannot undergo this treatment as it does not help grow new hair on a bald patch. It can only make the existing thinning hair thicker by strengthening the hair follicles.
The treatment requires about eight sittings, each two weeks apart for best results

PRP Treatments.
At KHTC INDIA we use the “double-centrifuge” technique that allows the active biologic factors of serum to be administered at the most effective concentration.

HOW IT WORKS
For the medical treatment of hair loss, practitioners use PRP to stimulate the growth of follicles, thereby reversing the hair miniaturization seen in androgenetic alopecia (common baldness).
It is thought that the introduction of platelets and white blood cells through platelet rich plasma (PRP) can amplify the body’s naturally-occurring wound healing mechanism. It is also proposed that PRP can actually stimulate the stem cells (dermal papilla) of the newly transplanted hair follicles. Other doctors feel that during a hair transplant procedure, the body’s normal production of bioactive growth factors are optimal for healing and subsequent growth and that PRP gives no additional benefit. In the medical treatment of male and female pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia), PRP can be injected into the balding scalp to potentially stimulate thin (miniaturized) hair to grow into thicker (terminal) hairs. Patients with thinning, but not totally bald, areas would be the best candidates
. Human blood contains mesenchymal stem cells, and autologous blood products that contain essential and specific growth factors that assist in tissue regeneration and healing. Published medical literature from Europe and the United States confirms the safety and use of PRP therapy. It has been used a medial adjunct therapy for over two decades for skin and wound healing. • In hair restoration, PRP will be injected into the scalp. The application of PRP causes miniaturized hair follicles to become healthier and larger, producing more robust hair growth. PRP activates follicular progenitor cells (adult stem cells) and PRP is loaded with growth factors that promote rapid angiogenesis and localized cell growth. Effective for both male and female pattern hair loss, PRP has also regrown hair in alopecia area, eyebrow hypotrichosis and other patient cases with non-hereditary hair loss.

• The recovery from PRP therapy is typically uneventful. Pain is easily managed in most cases with non-narcotic analgesic medication such as Ibuprofen. Some mild swelling of the forehead is occasionally seen 4-6 hours after PRP injections. This is normal and will resolve in 48 hours. Avoiding vigorous activity is recommended until the swelling is gone. There is no other downtime or noticeable effects of the procedure. Patients can wash their hair normally immediately after the injections. PRP treatment takes about 80 minutes to complete. First, a blood sample is obtained which is specially processed to produce the PRP. A local anesthetic is then administered to completely numb the scalp treatment area. If desired, a sedative can be administered. The PRP are combined and then administered via a series of injections over the full scalp or in a localized treatment area such as the eyebrows or beard.

New hair growth can be seen as early as 2 months, but is typically evident between 5-8 months and will continue to improve up to a year after treatment.
